Music Therapy and Body Structure MUSIC THERAPY: CAN IT CHANGE THE STRUCTURE OF YOUR BODY? “Music is capable of enhancing immune function, lowering heart rate, lowering stress-related hormones like cortisol that raise our blood pressure and depress our immune system.” Mitchell Gaynor, M.D. – Director Medical Oncology and Integrative Medicine Strong – Cornell Cancer Prevention Center – New York Hospital. People have long used music for many purposes, including relaxation, healing rituals, and spiritual inspiration. Music reduces stress and stimulates creativity. It can provoke all the emotions and assist us in grieving, or provoke ecstasy and dance. Healing sounds focus on the ability of harmonics to create vibrational changes. These changes occur in the physical body, or in the mind, emotional and etheric bodies which can initiate transformation and healing. THE MIND/BODY CONNECTION Increasing scientific evidence supports the powerful communication between the mind and body. It is a widely accepted belief that medical treatment is effective only when the whole person is treated body, mind and spirit. Music has been referred to as a universal language. It crosses culture and historical backgrounds. Its use in therapy with profoundly handicapped patients suggests that music is an effective means of communication when other means fail. Music is believed by many to be an important asset in creating healing environments. Dr. Alfred Tomatis, a surgeon in the specialty of Ear, Nose and Throat and who later in Applied Psychology, has conducted many research studies about hearing. Our sense of hearing is one of …

Antioxidant Therapies and Radiation Treatment Antioxidant Therapies Do Not Interfere With Radiation Treatment Cancer patients can get the vital nutritional benefits from taking antioxidants without the risk of interfering with radiation treatment, according to research findings presented last weekend at the Society of Integrative Oncology's Third International Conference in Boston. The Society for Integrative Oncology is a non-profit organization of oncologists and other health professionals studying and integrating effective complementary therapies in cancer care. Antioxidant Therapies Do Not Interfere With Radiation Treatment! The study, Effect of Concomitant Naturopathic Therapies on Clinical Tumor Response to External Beam Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer, was conducted by researchers at Cancer Treatment Centers of America and reviewed PSA levels of prostate cancer patients after receiving radiation therapy. Researchers found no difference between patients taking antioxidants and those who did not. Antioxidants used in the study included green tea extract, melatonin, high-potency multivitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E. Cancer Treatment Centers of America chose this study to address clinical concerns about the use of dietary supplements in conjunction with conventional cancer therapies. The study addressed the concern that antioxidants might interfere with cancer cell oxidation levels that contribute to tumor killing by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. "This study provides evidence that antioxidants as a complementary therapy in cancer treatment do not interfere with external beam radiation therapy," said Timothy Birdsall, ND, vice president of integrative medicine for Cancer Treatment Centers of America and lead author of the paper. "Antioxidants are one of many complementary and …

sunshine and cancer

Cancer and Sunshine I am certain that you are aware of the controversy regarding whether sunlight is good or bad for us. There have been reports in the media that sunshine can actually cause cancer, but the motive behind these allegations and propaganda is suspect, to say the least. On the other hand, if sunlight were a mainstream drug. It would probably make the cover of "Time" magazine, and be heralded as the greatest medical breakthrough in the history of modern medicine - it really is that powerful. Cancer and Sunshine has been misunderstood so let's see if we can shed some light on the controversy. Sunlight exposure is well-known to provoke the production of vitamin D in the body and can reduce the risk of many cancers by more than 50 percent. It can even help to reverse certain types of cancers. The question is why has there not being more research on a natural healing source that has been around much before man became known on this planet? Has not only ignored this truly miraculous cure are many types of cancer, that it has actually tried to discredit it as Dr. Michael Holick, who was attacked for speaking out about the truth of sunlight and cancer.A four-year clinical trial involving 1,200 women found those taking the vitamin had about a 60-per-cent reduction in cancer incidence, compared with those who didn't take it, a drop so large - twice the impact on cancer attributed to smoking - it almost …

How Much Water Do We Need? WATER CONTENT OF OUR BODIES Depending on your age, your body can be anywhere from 55 percent to 75 percent. A baby is 75 percent while a very old person is 60 percent or less. Obese people have less body of water than lean muscular people because fat cells are only 25 percent water while muscles are 75 percent. Our brains are composed of 75 percent water while our blood is 80 percent. Even hard substances like bones (20 percent) and teeth (5 percent) have some water. Water is so vital to our survival that we cannot live without it. It is literally a "river of life" flowing inside us. DAILY LOSS OF FLUIDS We need a constant supply of water because our bodies lose a substantial amount every day. Studies have found that we lose from eight to 10 cups of fluid a day through our sweat, urine and breath. It is difficult for the body to get water from any other source than water itself. Soft drinks and alcohol steal tremendous amounts of water from the body, however, even other beverages such as coffee, milk and juice require water from the body to be properly digested. ROLE OF WATER IN OUR BODIES 1. Water plays a vital role in nearly every bodily function. 2. Water is essential for proper digestion, nutrient absorption and chemical reactions. 3. A hydrolytic role in all aspects of body metabolism - water-dependent chemical reactions (hydrolysis). 4. At …

Spas and the Healing Power of Water WATER – THE CENTRE OF LIFE! Water is the centre of life. The food we grow depends on water – without, it withers and dies. The body, and the planet we live on, is approximately 70 percent water. We can live without food for about eight weeks, but without water we could only survive for about 4 days. Despite the obvious importance of water to our lives - as nutrition and for survival - the healing properties of water are often forgotten in our busy and stressed lives. SPAS AND HEALTH The word “spa” originates from the Belgian town of Spa, located in the Ardennes Forest in Belgium, which boasts several natural mineral springs which have been popular for their beneficial effect for thousands of years. Peter the Great, the seventeenth-century Russian Czar, visited this city to relax and “take the waters.” Apparently, Peter, and others, found relief from their pains here, and physicians began looking seriously at spas as health centres. In 1797, the Scottish physician and surgeon James Currier published The Effects of Water, Cold and Warm, as a Remedy in Fever and Other Diseases. The Concise Oxford Dictionary will inform you that it is "a place where there is a curative mineral spring". However, The British Spas Federation recognizes that today the word has to encompass many different elements, although the main criterion is the use of water. A complete Spa Experience is far more than just a whirlpool bath; …

cellulite treatment

Treating Cellulite Naturally Cellulite can be characterized by a state in which the cells of the subcutaneeous fatty layer under the skin are invaded by toxic lymph. Combined with a poor circulation of the blood and a sluggish lymphatic system resulting from a sedentary lifestyle and you have the formula for the development of cellulite. DEVELOPMENT OF CELLULITE There are a number of changes that occur when cellulite develops: * The capillaries become greatly enlarged, and blood plasma seeps out into the surrounding fatty tissues. * The fat cells become 'squashed' and bunch up together - this forms the characteristic 'orange-peel' effect. * The lymph nodes, part of the lymphatic system that drains toxins out of the body, cannot cope and the excess plasma remains in the cells. * The walls of the fat cells become thickened by extra deposits of collagen, resulting in thinner and weakened connective tissue. What we see from the outside is the familiar mattress phenomenon, the pitting and bulging most commonly seen on the buttocks, thighs and upper arms. The presence of cellulite has nothing to do with overweight - you can be anorexic and still have cellulite - I recently saw an anorexic girl of 22 years in clinical practice that had the worst type of cellulite that I have ever seen. WHY DOES CELLULITE DEVELOP? When one thinks how the body works holistically, one cannot help but conclude that the presentation of various symptoms are really the body's way of maintaining balance and …

Water as a Medicine YOUR BODY'S MANY CRIES FOR WATER! RARE indeed are those books destined to become all‑time classics. Even rarer are books destined to accomplish a paradigm shift in any major area of modern knowledge. Of still greater rarity are books destined to benefit significantly the health of countless millions of human beings, at no cost to them. Such a landmark book is Your Body's Many Cries for Water by Dr. F. Batmanghelidj. He is a London-educated Iranian medical doctor who has made revolutionary discoveries about the water metabolism of the human body. His astounding basic breakthrough was made while he was confined to a Teheran prison, this being a unique circumstance in itself.ARISTOCRATIC LINEAGE Dr. Batmanghelidj is of aristocratic lineage in his native Iran, and when the Shah was overthrown, the doctor was arrested and jailed with more than 3,000 other well-born victims of the Khomeini revolution. While these unfortunates wore awaiting execution, Dr. Batmanghelidj was assigned as their medical officer pending his own appearance before a firing squad. He had no medical resources other than water, in an environment pervaded by stress and terror. Indeed, the doctor found himself incarcerated in a gigantic stress laboratory. This became the milieu in which fundamental discoveries were made regarding the medicinal and functional value of water. These are discoveries that have eluded giant medical trusts, vast hospital complexes, battalions of medical professors, universities that boast about their sophisticated research facilities, and all the vaunted resources of the pharmaceutical industry. None …

Why Can't I Lose Weight?

WHY CAN'T I LOSE WEIGHT? When I completed my studies in Naturopathy and Clinical Nutrition, I found that clients were seeking my services for weight control. I began to work with the knowledge that I had picked up from studies on this subject, but to my disappointment, and that of my clients, we were not very successful initially. I continued to hear from patients how they had spent a good many years losing and then gaining weight in true yo-yo style. There were many psychological (anxiety, depression, compulsive eating, anorexia and bulimia) as well as physical effects such as a loss of muscle tissue, including heart tissue, loss of bone minerals, gout or gallstones, hair loss, fibrosis and tissue scarring, high blood pressure when returning to a normal diet and shortened life-span.I had a few sleepless nights mulling over the reasons why people were not losing weight with the reduced calorie diet that I had given them, given that it was also a healthy diet too. I began researching and realised that the secret to weight loss lies in balancing the metabolism, which involves a variety of steps. There are a number of factors that block the metabolism, which I have called the "Metabolism Blockers". These include 1. Toxin levels in the body 2. The Thyroid 3. Food Intolerances 4. Nutritional Deficiencies 5. Stress 6. Insulin Resistance 7. Candidiasis I began by identifying these individual metabolism blockers in my clients, and removing them. To my surprise, my patients actually began …

Are We Treating Cancer but Killing the Patient? The consultant oncologist picks up the phone angrily and calls his oncologist colleague who has been treating the patient sitting in front of him, “stop all chemotherapy immediately,” he says, “you have completely destroyed her liver which is pretty much irrecoverable!” This is exactly how this patient, who I was seeing for support using natural medicine, told me the story. She has received over 20 courses of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, plus countless surgeries, for a breast cancer that metastized to the bones. Only God knows what her destiny will be! The other oncologist treating her was quite prepared to continue bombarding her with more chemotherapy and radiation, without even thinking of the detrimental effects and side effects. The cancer was the enemy and this is what we shall attack, irrelevant whether we kill the patient. “The tumour shrunk, but we lost the patient” is something that is often heard in cancer circles. To my mind the logic stinks and should be carefully reviewed by all who say that they treat cancer. I think it is time to talk a little about cancer treatments for two reasons – first, it has reached pandemic proportions and many families are afflicted with the trauma of this disease, and second, because so many people are dying, even though they are being treated with chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. If you are being diagnosed with cancer, invariable you will be told to undergo surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy, …
